Wigan still want Tevez 'proof'
Wigan chief executive Brenda Spencer insists the club will drop their complaint against the Premier League if the governing body prove Carlos Tevez is eligible to play for West Ham.
Fulham, Sheffield United, Wigan and Charlton joined forces last week to explore the possibility of contesting an independent disciplinary commissionâs decision to fine the Hammers ÂŁ5.5m and not deduct points â which would have effectively seen the club relegated.
Chairman Dave Whelan has written to the Premier League requesting âconcrete evidenceâ Tevez was eligible to play for West Ham during their recent 3-0 win at the JJB Stadium.
And Spencer confirmed the club just want proof about the situation.
âWe just want to make sure everything was done correctly and he was eligible to play,â she told BBC Radio Five Live.
âIf the Premier League prove to our chairman and the club that everything was done correctly and there is no problem, we will accept that.â
Manager Paul Jewell does not want to avoid relegation solely because of a points deduction for the Hammers.
âI donât want to stay up off the back of a court case and West Ham docked points,â he told the Daily Star.
âI want to stay up because we won our last match.â
Asked about the future of Jewell should the Latics be relegated on Sunday â if they fail to beat Sheffield United they will go down â Spencer said: âThatâs a difficult one.
âPaul knows what he wants to do and that will be Paulâs decision. I wouldnât like to see it and Iâm sure the chairman of the club wouldnât like to see it with our players or Paul.â
