Essien in Euro fitness battle

Michael Essien is battling to be fit for Chelsea’s quarter-final return leg against Valencia on Tuesday but insists his team-mates can triumph without him.

The 24-year-old midfielder has been sidelined with a knee injury since the FA Cup quarter-final draw with Tottenham at Stamford Bridge but he is getting ever closer to a return.
