Teenager Lee Cattermole blasted Middlesbrough back into their FA Cup quarter-final clash after Manchester United had threatened to run away with it.

Cattermole struck a minute before the break following after Wayne Rooney’s first goal in eight games, which gave the visitors a 23rd-minute lead.

United dominated the opening half, although keeper Tomasz Kuszczak, deputising for Edwin van der Sar after he injured a calf muscle in the warm-up, had to save from Stewart Downing and Ayegbeni Yakubu.
