Pardew praises Holland
Charlton boss Alan Pardew believes Matt Holland is leading by example as the Addicks look to escape relegation.
The midfielder has been appointed captain in the absence of England pair Luke Young and Darren Bent and, according to Pardew, the 32-year-old’s performances have been exemplary.
Pardew told the club’s official website, www.cafc.co.uk: “Matt Holland’s performances and attitude since I’ve been here have been exemplary.
“They are a credit to him and he is a standard bearer for any Premiership player.”
Holland is in the final months of his contract at The Valley and Pardew has revealed the Republic of Ireland player, along with others who are nearing the end of their deals, must wait until the end of the season until they are reviewed.
“His situation, like that of about eight other individuals, will be reviewed at the end of the season and I’ve made that clear to the whole squad. I think that’s fair on everybody.”
The former West Ham manager believes Holland will not be affected by this and will lead from the front as the south-east London club attempt to retain their place in the Barclays Premiership.
“Matt will set a great example,” Pardew continued.
“I’m sure his attitude between now and the end will be absolutely first class and all those other players out of contract will be able to look at him and follow that example.”
