Liverpool had lost 3-0 to the Gunners on Saturday in the FA Cup and were anxious to make amends.

Manager Rafael Benitez named only two players from his starting line-up - goalkeeper Jerzy Dudek and Steven Gerrard.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger was of the same mind. Only goalkeeper Manuel Almunia and Kolo Toure retained their places in the team. Cesc Fabregas was back in the side after suspension.

The winners had a semi-final against Tottenham to look forward to.
