The businessman who helped Alexandre Gaydamak buy Portsmouth last year has resigned from the board at Fratton Park.

David Chissick, who was vice-chairman at Pompey, played a key role at the Premiership club when Gaydamak took over from former owner Milan Mandaric.

Since the takeover, Harry Redknapp’s side have secured their Premiership status and are currently sixth in the league with hopes of qualifying for Europe.

A statement on the club’s website, www.pompeyfc.premiumtv.co.uk, revealed Chissick plans to concentrate on his other business interests but will remain an avid Portsmouth fan.

Chief executive Peter Storrie said: “David has played an important role in the new era of Portsmouth and the club wish to thank him for his contribution to the business.”
