Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger today insisted his silence in the wake of last weekend’s touchline bust-up with Alan Pardew was designed to avoid “a media war”.

The French coach along with his Hammers counterpart had been charged with improper conduct by the Football Association after they had to be separated following what was an angry confrontation towards the end of the clash at Upton Park.
