Silva injured after car crash
Former Portsmouth striker Dario Silva has undergone emergency surgery following a serious car crash in Uruguay.
The 33-year-old was driving his car in Montevideo but lost control and hit a column of street lights.
Two other former Uruguay internationals, Elbio Pappa and Dardo Pereira, were with him but suffered only minor blows.
Doctor Mario Cancela, of La Espanola hospital admitted, that Silva has been placed in a medically induced coma and they are concerned with an injury to his leg.
âHe is a patient with multiple traumatisms, a cranium fracture and an exposed fracture of his right leg,â Cancela said.
âHe was operated on by doctor Lopez and we are really worried about his leg. It is undergoing different tests and scans.
âThe leg has suffered a very serious injury. The patient is under a pharmacological coma.
âNow, we are interested in saving his life.â
Silva played 49 matches for the Uruguayan national team, having scored 15 goals. He played the 2002 World Cup in Korea and Japan.
Silva is currently unattached, after leaving Portsmouth in February.
