Hamburg valuation leaves Baros in limbo

Milan Baros’ move to Hamburg appears in doubt after Aston Villa chairman Doug Ellis described the German club’s valuation of the striker as unacceptable.

The 24-year-old Baros had been linked with a move away from Villa, whom he joined for £6.5m (€9.4m) from Liverpool at the start of last season, with Hamburg director Dietmar Beiersdorfer then revealing his club’s interest.

Ellis met with Hamburg officials yesterday but does not want to let the Czech Republic striker go unless it is for the right price.

Ellis told www.avfc.co.uk: “We met with representatives from Hamburg today at their request, but their valuation of Milan falls way short of anything that’s even remotely acceptable.

“We’re certainly not going to sell Milan Baros on the cheap and they’ve now gone back to Germany. We’ll wait to see if there are any further developments.”

Baros’ international team-mate David Jarolim, who also plays for Hamburg, recently revealed the striker “really wants to leave Aston Villa”.

Since arriving from Liverpool, Baros scored 12 goals for Villa last season to finish their top scorer.

He earned a place in his country’s World Cup squad but only made one appearance in Germany during Czech Republic’s disappointing tournament.
