Lehmann looking for redemption

Jens Lehmann admitted he was desperate to get another shot at glory after his cruel sending-off in the Champions League final against Arsenal.

The 36-year-old saw the red card in the 18th minute of the Gunners´ 2-1 defeat by Barcelona when he fouled Samuel Eto´o just outside the penalty area.

He was granted an extra rest by Germany boss Jurgen Klinsmann before joining his team-mates in the training camp base in Geneva early last week.

Lehmann played the first 45 minutes in Germany´s 7-0 friendly thrashing of Luxembourg – his first international since pipping Oliver Kahn for the number one shirt – but conceded he needs more time to get over the fiasco in Paris.

“I need to get it out of my mind,” Lehmann told PA Sport after the match.

“Right now I still need to forget about it and at some point I will have got over it. But I hope that at some point of my career I will get another chance to play in a final.”

Lehmann also voiced his delight over Thierry Henry´s decision to sign a contract extension.

“We are all delighted (that he is staying) because he has been the most valuable player for us and it is always good to have probably the best of the world on your team,” said Lehmann.

“I hope he will do very, very well at the World Cup but not against us just in case we are playing against each other.”
