Farren brace sees Derry through

Blarney United 1 Derry City 3

Mark Farren scored twice to top and tail this win as Derry eased into the third round.

Derry appeared to end any notion of a shock with two goals inside the opening seven minutes.

Farren set up midfielder Ciaran Martyn to shoot home the first to stun the MSL side after just two minutes.

Blarney keeper Paul Collins could then only parry a fierce drive from Brian Cash to gift Farren a simple tap in for the second.

But Blarney made a match of it when Stephen Jennings converted a 40th minute penalty after Eddie McCallion handled inside the box.

Farren finally sealed Derry’s passage ten minutes from time when scoring a penalty after Neil O’Riordan was sent off for pulling him down.
