Vidic finds England a struggle

Manchester United defender Nemanja Vidic admits he found it tough to adapt to life at Old Trafford.

But he believes he will be more consistent next season.

Vidic, 24, arrived in January with a big reputation after helping Serbia and Montenegro reach the World Cup finals on the back of a superb defensive record.

However, his first league match ended in 4-3 defeat by Blackburn and he looked unconvincing.

But Vidic has knuckled down and with 13 games under his belt is beginning to feel settled in England after a spell in Russia.

He said: “I am happy now and getting better with every game.

“It was not easy for me in those first matches. I did not feel good. It was a new country and a new club and the first two months were very difficult for me.

“I am working hard and I will be a better player next season.”

Vidic is hoping to retain his place against champions-elect Chelsea after being part of the United side that defeated Tottenham at White Hart Lane.

But he knows that despite his high transfer fee he is not guaranteed a spot in the starting line-up.

Vidic told MUTV: “I am not thinking too much about the competition there is for places.

“I have a good relationship with the other guys – they all help me.

“I am just trying to stay in the side and show that I have some qualities.

“The league is quick and physical and you have to adapt but this is a good chance for me in England.”
