Millar's men on a roll

Roy Millar is calling on his Northern Ireland Under-21 side to preserve their proud unbeaten run tomorrow.

They go into the friendly against Wales aiming to make it nine games without defeat, having won five and drawn three of their previous matches.

Considering they do not have the resources or the manpower compared to other nations, it is an encouraging statistic. and Millar is anxious to keep the momentum going ahead of the European Championship qualifier against Liechtenstein in the spring.

He was delighted at the way the squad equipped themselves in difficult circumstances last month when they secured back-to-back friendly victories against Israel.

“I am very pleased with the way things are developing,” said the province’s manager.

“We have been able to achieve some good results on the back of some fine performances.

“It is always heartening when the players react to what you are trying to teach them and that has happened recently.”

Millar, who has based his squad in Swansea, expects a stiff test against Wales.

“It will be competitive, I am sure,” he said.

“Brian Flynn is doing a good job there and they will be up for this game.”
