No Premier League action over Redknapp appointment

Portsmouth will not face action from the Premier League for their alleged illegal approach to bring Harry Redknapp back to Fratton Park from rivals Southampton.

While at St Mary’s, Redknapp was initially refused permission to speak to Pompey about filling their managerial vacancy; then he left the club after feeling his position was untenable.

Saints chairman Rupert Lowe immediately questioned Portsmouth’s conduct after Redknapp’s departure, with Pompey opposite number Milan Mandaric denying any wrongdoing.

However, the Premier League gathered further evidence and have now decided not to take any action against Pompey.

“The FA Premier League Board has reassessed all the evidence, including further representations from both clubs, as well as considering subsequent events,” read a statement from the Premier League.

“With the full knowledge of both clubs the FA Premier League Board has decided not to proceed with any charge.

“The elements of this matter that fall under the jurisdiction of the FA Premier League are now considered closed.”
