Aston Villa midfielder Lee Hendrie has shaken off a calf injury and is available for Sunday’s FA Cup fifth-round encounter with Manchester City at Villa Park.

Hendrie limped out of the final stages of the 2-1 home reversal by Newcastle with the problem and was initially rated “very doubtful” by Villa manager David O’Leary.

Left-back Jlloyd Samuel and midfielder Steven Davis are still battling to be fit to face Stuart Pearce's side with knee and groin injuries respectively.

Samuel suffered his setback against the Magpies while Davis was forced to sit out that game which meant O’Leary handing a full debut to rookie Craig Gardner.

O’Leary said: “The good news is that Lee is available for selection but with Jlloyd it’s touch and go and a case of wait and see.

“We are a bit more hopeful with Steven and the fact the game is on Sunday rather than Saturday helps the pair of them.”

Gavin McCann will be available after serving a one-game ban for incurring five bookings while on loan James Milner is also ineligible after not being allowed to face Newcastle.
