Spurs net record-breaking Puma deal

Tottenham have signed a five-year kit deal with sportswear giants Puma, an agreement which will net the club £5m (€7.3m) per season.

Puma will supply Spurs’ kit from next season, bringing an end to the club’s four-year association with Kappa.

The deal, a commercial record for the Barclays Premiership club, is understood to be worth £5m (€7.3m) a year – which could boost the spending power for head coach Martin Jol.

Jol has been active in the transfer market since taking charge last season, making high-profile signings such as Jermaine Jenas and Edgar Davids – while recouping money from selling Pedro Mendes, Sean Davis and Noe Pamarot to Portsmouth.

Money from Puma could see him strengthen the squad further, as would a favourable new shirt sponsorship agreement – Spurs’ deal with Thomson holiday company runs out in the summer.

South Korean company LG Electronics have been suggested as possible candidates to become the fourth shirt sponsor in the club’s history.
