Jol agrees with Sommeil action

Tottenham boss Martin Jol has welcomed the Football Association’s decision to take action against Manchester City’s David Sommeil.

The French defender has been charged with violent conduct for his challenge on Tottenham left-back Lee Young-Pyo, which was not spotted by referee Alan Wiley during Wednesday’s Barclays Premiership clash at Eastlands.

Sommeil was given the option of pleading guilty so he could start the suspension immediately, but the 31-year-old has opted to have the case heard at a disciplinary hearing on Tuesday.

Jol said: “If the referee didn’t see it, other people make decisions on it and that is okay with me because he caught him. It was not even a tackle, it was a kick.

“At the time Lee told me it was the worst tackle ever.”

Sommeil is free to face Scunthorpe in the FA Cup tomorrow but risks missing any fourth round game, plus the Premiership encounters with Manchester United and Bolton which precede it.

Lee, meanwhile, sat out training today because his knee injury had deteriorated overnight. The South Korean is a major doubt for Tottenham’s FA Cup clash at Leicester on Sunday.
