Schwarzer on bench
Middlesbrough keeper Mark Schwarzer will have to make do with a seat on the bench for tomorrow’s FA Cup third round trip to Nuneaton after handing in a transfer request.
Fellow Australian Brad Jones will deputise as McClaren attempts to deal with the latest distraction on top of a mounting injury crisis.
Franck Queudrue is out for up to eight weeks with knee ligament damage, joining George Boateng (ankle), Fabio Rochemback (calf), Szilard Nemeth (hamstring), Tony McMahon (shoulder) and former Nuneaton striker Malcolm Christie (leg) on the sidelines.
Provisional squad: Jones, Schwarzer, Parnaby, Pogatetz, Riggott, Southgate, Bates, Wheater, Doriva, Mendieta, Cattermole, Morrison, Johnson, Kennedy, Yakubu, Hasselbaink, Viduka, Maccarone.
