Baggies open to offers for Koumas

Bryan Robson has told midfielder Jason Koumas he can leave West Brom on a permanent basis – if the price is right.

Bryan Robson has told midfielder Jason Koumas he can leave West Brom on a permanent basis – if the price is right.

The Welsh international is currently on loan at Cardiff but has been linked with a move to fellow Coca-Cola Championship side Wolves.

Robson and predecessor Gary Megson both became frustrated at Koumas’ inability to add workrate to his undoubted natural ability.

Robson said: “There has always been a price there to be paid regarding Jason and, if anyone wants to pay it, we will take the money.

“Have Cardiff or anyone made an offer? I’m not really sure. You’d have to ask our chairman (Jeremy Peace) because I’ve left things with him.”

Robson is hoping that any money from the sale of Koumas would bolster his kitty for the January transfer window, where otherwise he expects only to make loan signings.

Meanwhile, Robson will not rush midfielder Zoltan Gera back into action against Portsmouth this weekend after his recovery from a hernia operation.

The Hungarian skipper will be part of the squad but, at best, will only play a small role with Robson preferring to ensure he is available for the hectic festive programme.

Robson said: “Zoltan has come through training very well. He also came through 45 minutes in the reserves okay so he is in the squad but it is maybe a bit early to start him.

“For me, it’s important that I have Zoltan 100% fit for the Christmas period. I don’t want to rush him and then all of a sudden he picks up another injury.

“He’s had enough setbacks this season. That’s why I’d sooner protect him at this stage.”
