Best award replaced
George Best’s family have been given a replacement of the 1968 European Footballer of the Year trophy he won after inspiring Manchester United to European Cup glory that year.
The Northern Ireland legend, who died last week aged 59, sold the original prize at auction in October 2003 but his former United team-mates Denis Law and Sir Bobby Charlton were in Paris to collect the award last night and pass it on to Best’s relatives.
