United investigate bugging claims

Manchester United are investigating a possible bugging incident at Old Trafford after audio tapes were offered to a national newspaper.

The tapes were apparently recorded in the home dressing room last Sunday, the day of United’s Premiership clash with Chelsea.

The contents reportedly include pre-match and half-time team-talks, plus celebratory comments following the 1-0 victory.

Phil Townsend, United’s director of communications, said on the club’s website, www.manutd.com: “We have launched our own investigation and if necessary will involve the police.”
