The fairytale continued as Wigan stretched their amazing winning streak to seven matches, although Fulham manager Chris Coleman will surely feel but for referee Andre Marriner the Latics would never have stolen the points.

The Welshman was left frustrated at the end of a first half in which key decisions made by Marriner, a stand-in for Barry Knight, went against his side at the JJB Stadium.

They ultimately proved decisive as his Coleman’s side threw away a point in the second minute of injury-time when Pascal Chimbonda scored his first goal for the club since a summer move from French side Bastia.

With 16 minutes remaining Jewell made his second change with the introduction of Steve McMillan for left-back Leighton Baines before Wigan had their own penaltyappeal turned down in the 80th minute despite the ball brushing the arm of Claus Jensen.

There followed a rash of substitutions, with Brian McBride and Ahmed Elrich on for John and Jensen in the 81st minute, while Gary Teale replaced Bullard four minutes later.

Then in the 88th minute came a rare second-half chance, with Camara beating Bocanegra and rounding Warner, only to curl his shot into the side-netting.

But in the second minute of injury-time Wigan stole the points with Chimbonda scoring his first goal for the club with a diving header from six yards from Graham Kavanagh’s free-kick.
