Barnet have appealed against goalkeeper Ross Flitney’s red card in their Carling Cup defeat by Manchester United.

Barnet have appealed against goalkeeper Ross Flitney’s red card in their Carling Cup defeat by Manchester United.

The Football Association have received the League Two club’s claim for ‘wrongful dismissal’ after Flitney was sent off by referee Richard Beeby less than two minutes into the 4-1 third-round loss at Old Trafford.

Flitney was dismissed for handling the ball outside the area and denying a goalscoring opportunity, a decision Barnet manager Paul Fairclough branded “cruel”.

An FA disciplinary commission will hear the claim tomorrow.
