Manchester United have decided not to appeal against Wayne Rooney’s two-match Champions League ban.

Manchester United have decided not to appeal against Wayne Rooney’s two-match Champions League ban.

The England international received his punishment yesterday, with UEFA confirming the additional one-match penalty due to his four-letter outburst at referee Kim Milton Nielsen after the Danish referee had shown him a red card.

United had been given until Friday to contest the suspension but have decided to accept the punishment, meaning Rooney will sit out the home games against Benfica on September 27 and Lille on October 18.
