United deny Owen contact
Manchester United have rejected suggestions from Real Madrid that they have enquired about England striker Michael Owen.
United have been linked with Owen throughout the summer, with speculation that Alex Ferguson would make a move for the 25-year-old.
Owen’s first-team opportunities at the Bernabeu have been seriously weakened by the arrivals of Robinho and Julio Baptista.
The 25-year-old’s advisors last week claimed they had had “brief dialogue” with three or four Premiership clubs, with United believed to have been one of those involved.
That feeling was reinforced today by Real Madrid, who claim the Red Devils have been in contact over the former Liverpool man.
However, Red Devils officials have been quick to respond, insisting no discussions have taken place.
Manchester United communications director Phil Townsend said: “We have had no contact with Real Madrid over Michael Owen.”
