Davids deal close

Tottenham are hoping to unveil Holland midfielder Edgar Davids at White Hart Lane tomorrow.

The 32-year-old spent another day locked in talks with Spurs over a one-year deal but the North London club are convinced they can finalise personal terms with the 32-year-old.

Meanwhile, Spurs new boy Wayne Routledge has apologised to Crystal Palace fans for his reaction to being barracked last season.

The England Under-21 international was heavily criticised by Palace fans at the end of last season after refusing to sign a new contract at Selhurst Park.

Routledge believes he has learnt a lot from the whole episode and is concentrating on life at White Hart Lane.

Routledge admitted: “It seems a long time ago but I am at Tottenham after what seemed a long, drawn-out process, so it’s good to get some training under my belt.

“It was frustrating it took so long to move across London but I was always totally concentrated on my football.

“It is definitely something I have learned from, something that has made me stronger. It was hard to cope with but I just love playing football. So as long as I was playing I could push everything to the back of my mind.

“I could understand the fans’ reaction. I should never have thrown my shirt down. I regret doing it to this day and probably will regret it for the rest of my career.

“I’ve said sorry and will learn. I always carried on giving everything, though. If you know what I am about, then that is the only way I know how to react.

“I gave everything for Palace until my very last day, my last kick of the ball but I felt it was right to move on and progress my career.

“Hopefully, I can do that with Tottenham.”

Meanwhile, Spurs midfielder Dean Marney has joined Championship side Norwich City in a season-long loan deal.

The England under-21 international has previously enjoyed short loan spells at Swindon Town, QPR and Gillingham, but now takes the opportunity to further his experience with a lengthy stint in the Championship.

Marney made his first team debut on the opening day of season 2003-04 as a substitute away at Birmingham and grabbed the headlines on New Year’s Day with a stunning two-goal show in the 5-2 victory over Everton at White Hart Lane.

Peter Taylor awarded him his first Under-21 cap the following month, as a substitute in the 2-1 friendly defeat against Holland at Pride Park.
