New Bhoy Nakamura determined to prove himself

New Celtic signing Shunsuke Nakamura has vowed to help under-fire manager Gordon Strachan when he makes his debut next weekend.

The 27-year-old watched from the Fir Park stand as Motherwell held the Hoops to a 4-4 draw in a bruising encounter on the opening day of the Bank of Scotland Premier League season.

The Japan international is ineligible to play against Artmedia Bratislava in the Champions League second qualifying round, second leg, tomorrow.

But he is determined to make his mark when Dundee United arrive at Celtic Park next Saturday.

Nakamura said: “It was a very physical game and I assume it was like that because everyone was excited at the start of the season.

“My Celtic team-mates were physically strong and tried to make the most of their strength. I think I can add a bit of sparkle to the play. If I can get on the ball, then I’m sure I can make the passes to create goals.

“It was certainly a very exciting game and a different style to the one I’ve been used to in Japan and Italy.”

Meanwhile, China international Du Wei is also hoping to make his mark on trial this week.

He told The Herald: “I have heard all about Celtic’s defeat in the Champions League but that doesn’t concern me at all.

“They are one of the most famous clubs in Europe; a team with fantastic history. I know there is a very high standard required for central defenders at the top level in Europe and I would like the chance to develop.

“I think I could adapt to the different physical demands.”
