Blades turn down Wigan's Jagielka offer

Sheffield United vice-chairman Terry Robinson has confirmed the Blades have turned down a bid from Wigan for midfielder Phil Jagielka.

Sheffield United vice-chairman Terry Robinson has confirmed the Blades have turned down a bid from Wigan for midfielder Phil Jagielka.

Robinson refused to disclose the amount offered but denied newly-promoted Wigan had made a reported £3.5m (€5m) offer for the England Under-21 international.

“That’s not right,” Robinson said. “But I can tell you Wigan have made a sensible approach for one of our players and no agreement has been reached.

“We’ve been in negotiation with Wigan for Jagielka and the position is that Sheffield United are not really bothered about selling him.

“They have submitted a bid and we’ve turned it down. You’ll have to ask them if they’re going to come back with a bigger one.”

Robinson added he expected Jagielka, 22, to help boss Neil Warnock steer the Blades into the Premiership themselves next season.

“Unless someone comes in with a daft offer there is no reason to think he won’t be at Sheffield United next season. From our point of view we want to keep Jagielka. It will take a massive bid for us to agree to sell him.”
