Pole looks to mirror countryman at Celtic

Poland striker Maciej Zurawski has declared he wants to emulate countryman Jackie Dziekanowski by becoming a success at Celtic.

The 28-year-old is in Glasgow for talks after a £2.2m (€3.3m) fee was agreed with Wisla Krakow.

He made it clear he hoped he would be the first new signing of the Gordon Strachan era.

He said: “Jackie Dziekanowski played for Celtic some years ago and it would be nice to follow him into the hearts of the Celtic supporters.

“I met Gordon Strachan in Poland last week with the permission of my club. He impressed me with his vision for Celtic.

“It is a very big club who play in front of huge crowds and this is a prospect that excites me.

“I have scored a lot of goals at home and for the Polish national team so I feel I could adapt quickly to British football.”

Zurawski has been a prolific scorer in the Polish top flight, netting 25 goals this season.

He was also on the scoresheet in World Cup qualifiers against England, Wales and Northern Ireland and also found the net at Real Madrid in a Champions League clash.

The player also hopes to be known by the nickname Magic should he complete a move to Parkhead.
