Strachan era set to begin at Celtic
Celtic have confirmed Gordon Strachan will be unveiled as the club‘s new manager tomorrow.
A press conference has been called for 10am at Parkhead when the ex-Scotland international will meet with the press for the first time since being appointed as Martin O‘Neill‘s successor.
The Tennent‘s Scottish Cup final win over Dundee United on Saturday was O‘Neill‘s final game in charge following five successful seasons, as he takes a break from the game to care for his sick wife, Geraldine.
Strachan will be aware that following O‘Neill is a huge task, but ex-Manchester United and Scotland team-mate Arthur Albiston has tipped him to be a big hit in Glasgow.
Albiston believes Strachan always had the potential to be a top manager – and will prove it at Celtic.
The pair played together at Old Trafford in the 1980s and the former defender claims that the new Hoops boss showed then he had the character and knowledge to succeed in management.
Aberdeen legend Strachan took a break from the game in February 2004 after quitting Southampton and Albiston knows he would not have been short of offers during that time.
But he believes the move to Celtic will be beneficial to both the club and their new manager.
Albiston said: “Gordon was always very confident in his own ability and rightly so. He has shown as a player and a manager that he knows what he wants and that he can achieve what he wants.
“This is a good move by Celtic and I think it will also be good from Gordon‘s point of view as well. I‘m sure he has been offered other jobs over the last year or so, but there is no bigger job than Celtic and no-one better to take over.
“He may be small in stature, but he is a big character.”
