Magpies stay silent on Owen speculation

Newcastle today declined to comment on reports suggesting they have tabled a bid of up to £20m (€29m) for Real Madrid striker Michael Owen.

Manager Graeme Souness has been repeatedly linked with a summer swoop for the England international after admitting he is the sort of player he would like to bring to St James’ Park as he launched his rebuilding programme.
