Celtic midfielder Neil Lennon insists any new deal can wait until the Bank of Scotland Premier League title is resolved.

Celtic midfielder Neil Lennon insists any new deal can wait until the Bank of Scotland Premier League title is resolved.

The former Northern Ireland international is in talks with the Celtic Park club over a new contract for when his current one expires in the summer.

The 33-year-old has been a mainstay of the Hoops’ first team since joining the club in a £5.75m (€8.5m) transfer at the end of 2000.

Lennon told the Evening Times: “The talks are ongoing and, hopefully, we will get something resolved in the next few weeks.

“But I am not really in any rush. The football is the most important thing at the minute to me.

“Who knows? Hopefully, we will have a league title in the bag by the time we sit down and sort it all out.

“I am quite comfortable about the whole situation.”

Celtic allowed a five-point lead over Rangers to slip last weekend when they were beaten at home by Hibernian.

The Hoops have just a two-point cushion as they prepare for the visit of Aberdeen on Sunday by which time they could have been overtaken by their Old Firm rivals who play Hearts on Saturday.
