Controversial goal gives Shels victory

Shelbourne 1 Cork City 0

A highly contentious 52nd minute goal by Jamie Harris got Shelbourne back on track in the Setanta Cup.

Cork must now beat Portadown by at least two goals if there are to overtake Shels and make the final.

Harris’ header from a Stuart Byrne cross seemed to be pushed off the line by City keeper Michael Devine, but assistant referee Eamon Shanks raised his flag to indicate a goal.

Both sides created good chances in a tight first half.

Alan Moore brought a good stop from Devine in the City goal on six minutes before Denis Behan headed tamely wide from a Liam Kearney cross at the other end when he really should have scored.

Devine again came to City’s rescue with a terrific double save to deprive Harris and Jason Byrne.

Cork almost levelled on 71 minutes, but Roy O’Donovan’s header came back of the Shels crossbar.
