Moore pens Baggies deal

West Brom defender Darren Moore has signed a new two-year contract, keeping him at The Hawthorns until 2007.

The 30-year-old Jamaica international has agreed the new deal, which includes the option of a year’s extension.

Baggies manager Bryan Robson told the club’s official website www.wba.co.uk: “It’s great that big Darren has signed a new contract.

“He had his troubles with his knee when I first came to the club but since then he’s shown good character around the place as club captain.

“He’s always got a smile on his face and it’s good to have people like that around.”

Moore joined Albion from Portsmouth in September 2001 for £750,000 (€1m) and has played 97 league games for the club.

He has often found his chances limited this season, with Robson pairing Thomas Gaardsoe alongside converted left-back Neil Clement in central defence.

He was linked with a move to Nottingham Forest, with former Baggies boss Gary Megson reportedly keen to be reunited with the player, but has now committed himself to West Brom.

“He’s been a good servant of the club, he’s one of the fans’ favourites and I’m sure he’ll do a good job for us.”
