Franck Queudrue's hopes of playing international football for Ireland have been dashed due to an error over his Irish ancestry.

The Paris-born Middlesbrough defender said last week that he was considering seeking a place on the Irish squad as he believed he had an Irish grandfather.

However, the 26-year-old said today that he had made a mistake and it was actually his great-grandfather who was Irish, meaning he is ineligible for Brian Kerr's squad.

"Unfortunately, I am one generation out," he said.
