Fans vote Lampard England player of the year

Frank Lampard was tonight set to complete the first step in a possible individual awards treble after being handed the England player-of-the-year award for 2004.

Lampard, who won 40% of the 20,000 votes cast by England fans to beat Wayne Rooney, Steven Gerrard and Ashley Cole, was due to get the award before tonight’s friendly against Holland.
