QPR abandon Czech chase

QPR have abandoned their bid to sign Czech Republic international Richard Dostalek after his club Rubin Kazan tried to change the terms of the deal.

The 30-year-old midfielder, a former Czech player of the year, had been training with Rangers this week and manager Ian Holloway was keen to sign him on loan until the end of the season.

But the Championship club decided to call off the deal – for now at least - when Russian outfit Rubin requested a fee for Dostalek.

“It was our understanding that we would be able to take the player on loan if we paid his salary and provided accommodation for his family,” QPR chief executive Mark Devlin told the club’s official website.

“Now we have been told we would have to pay a fee – and there are a number of reasons why we wouldn’t be prepared to do that.

“We would have had to complete the deal before he had played a reserve game for us and he has not played a competitive match for five weeks due to the Russian winter break – so we felt it would be too much of a gamble to part with the funds.

"But he is a quality player and we will monitor his situation.”
