Clark unlikely to start for Fulham

Fulham boss Chris Coleman insists Sunday’s crucial Barclays Premiership showdown with West Brom has arrived too soon for midfielder Lee Clark to make his first start of the season.

Clark has featured on the bench for the Cottagers’ last three matches, making brief appearances against Crystal Palace and Watford, after overcoming the long-term calf problem he suffered last March.

But Coleman revealed the club captain needs more reserve team action before he can be included in his starting line-up – although he is sure to play some role against West Brom.

Coleman said: “I’ve spoken to Clarky. He needs 90 minutes in the reserves to get his match fitness up but I want him in the dressing room because of his attitude and character. He’s only playing 15 minutes for us at the moment.

“It’s selfish of me I know but I need him with the team. West Brom will be too soon for him. He’ll be in the squad but he needs reserve games to get his match fitness up. But it’s only a matter of time before he starts for us.”
