United league chances 'dodgy', says Law

Denis Law insists it is too early to write off Manchester United‘s title chances – despite admitting their league prospects look “dodgy”.

The Old Trafford side sit in the unfamiliar position of seventh in the Premiership table – 11 points behind league-leaders Chelsea.

But former Scotland and United star Law believes coming from behind to triumph is nothing new to Alex Ferguson‘s men.

Asked whether he believes Sunday‘s goalless draw to derby rivals Manchester City has all but ruled United out of the title race, he replied: “Certainly not! The year before last they were 12 points behind going into the beginning of the year and they went on to win it.

“In football, it‘s never over until it‘s over. You never know what will happen – Arsenal were on a great run but they‘ve stumbled a bit recently and you never know, that could continue.”

Manchester United‘s last two league games saw them fail to find the back of the net against Portsmouth and Manchester City.

Sandwiched between those games was the 4-1 thrashing of Sparta Prague, with Ruud van Nistelrooy grabbing all four goals.

Law is convinced Ferguson does not have a striker problem – he just needs the Holland hitman back from suspension for league games.

He added: “You can‘t forget that van Nistelrooy didn‘t play yesterday and that he hasn‘t played in other games when they didn‘t score. It just shows how much they‘ve missed him.”
