Trezeguet out of Republic clash
Juventus striker David Trezeguet has been ruled out of France’s World Cup qualifier against the Republic of Ireland on Saturday and has been replaced in Raymond Domenech’s squad by Peguy Luyindula.
Trezeguet’s participation was in doubt after he injured his shoulder during Juve’s 1-0 win at Udinese in Serie A on Sunday, and his absence was confirmed by the French Football Federation today.
The 26-year-old, who has 55 caps and 29 goals for his country, is yet to feature under Domenech.
He missed Les Bleus’ first two qualifiers against Israel and the Faroe Islands with a thigh problem, and has not played for his country since the Euro 2004 quarter-final defeat to Greece in June.
Domenech’s initial squad for France’s two matches – against the Republic of Ireland and Cyprus next Wednesday – met up in Clairefontaine today and will shortly be joined by Marseille forward Luyindula.
