Hawthorns rift 'coming to a head'

The League Managers Association fear Gary Megson could be the next Premiership boss to lose his job.

The West Brom manager, who is in the final year of his contract at The Hawthorns, is yet to be offered a new deal by chairman Jeremy Peace, and has been in talks with LMA chief executive John Barnwell.

The Baggies – who lost 3-0 at Liverpool on Saturday – have yet to win a game this season and Megson is said to be feeling the heat after four years in charge.

Barnwell told the Sun: “Gary contacted me and I would say something is coming to a head quite quickly.

“We know he’s had words with the chairman and is a bit uncomfortable about it. It’s a club’s prerogative to change manager but sometimes the next question is: How much will it cost us?”

West Brom’s plight appeared to take its toll at the weekend when trouble flared on the team coach after the game at Anfield.

A player and a member of the coaching staff were involved in an incident, described as a brawl in some reports but played down by Megson yesterday.
