Manchester United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy returned to the side for the first time this season for the match against Bolton at the Reebok Stadium.
Van Nistelrooy has been a recovering from a hernia operation and had not been involved since the Vodafone Cup at the beginning of August.
His return to full fitness is a major boost for United especially as they have a Champions League match against Lyon to follow next week.
Gabriel Heinze made his debut following his £6.9m (€10.1m) move and there was also a place at the back for Wes Brown after an Achilles injury.
Bolton manager Sam Allardyce was looking to build on a bright start to the campaign after three wins in four games.
He made two changes to the team that beat Liverpool with Anthony Barness and Kevin Nolan replacing Ricardo Gardner and Stelios Giannakopoulos.
