Everton talk 'premature': Wyness

Former Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness insists that talk of any move to Everton is premature.

Former Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness insists that talk of any move to Everton is premature.

The 47-year-old stepped down at Pittodrie yesterday after almost three years at the club.

The Goodison Park club have been linked with a move for Wyness after the shock departure of Trevor Birch just six weeks into the job recently.

But Wyness, who helped steer Aberdeen away from serious financial difficulties after his arrival in October 2001, is still considering his options.

He said: “It has been a great privilege to work for Aberdeen but the time is now right to move on.

“I have several options that I am considering, inside and outside of football, and Everton is not the only possibility even though it is flattering to be linked with them.

“The priority is to consider what most attracts me but I have been thinking since Christmas about whether it was time to move on. It was always my intention to move on after two or three years in the post.

“Now is the right time to pass the baton on to other people and while they are doing away with the chief executive’s post I am sure the new system will work.”
