Moxey stands ground over Camara

Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey has insisted the club will not be bullied into selling Henri Camara to Bolton – even though the striker has defied them by flying back to Senegal.

The 26-year-old is desperate to leave Molineux following Wolves’ relegation from the top flight last term and failed to turn up for pre-season training after it was revealed that Bolton made a firm offer for him.

Trotters boss Sam Allardyce made a fresh £2.7m (€4.1m) bid on Monday after the first one was rejected but again this was turned down flat and led to an angry response from Wolves boss Dave Jones, who described Bolton’s actions as ’scandalous’, feeling they are deliberately trying to unsettle the player.

“Bolton have been told what is going to be acceptable as a fee and they are still a million miles away,” Jones told the club’s official website, www.wolves.co.uk.

“I don’t know what they are playing at. They are just making the boy unsettled and they keep upsetting him.

“I find Bolton’s behaviour and what they are doing scandalous. They should stop messing around.

“The situation is becoming a bit annoying and now they should put up or shut up.”

Jones had hoped a clear-the-air meeting with Camara on Friday would resolve their differences, but instead the room for negotiation shrunk even further when it was revealed by Camara’s agent Willie McKay that he had no knowledge of a meeting and that his client had now returned to Senegal.

Camara is determined to stand firm because he is desperate to move back into the Premiership and feels Wolves are unnecessarily holding out for a higher fee, believing Sam Allardyce’s offer to be a fair one given Wolves paid only £1.5m (€2.3m) to acquire his services from unheralded French outfit Sedan just 12 months ago.

“Henri wants to play in the Premiership and is keen to go to Bolton,” said McKay.

“It would give him the chance to team up with Jay-Jay Okocha and Bruno N’Gotty.

“More than anything else, he wants to be at a club where the Senegalese selectors can see him and unfortunately, that isn’t going to happen at Wolves.”

McKay’s remarks led to an angry response from Moxey, who claimed both player and agent had been made fully aware that a disciplinary meeting was going to be held.

While the PFA have indicated Wolves would be within their rights to sack Camara, Moxey said they ’might not go that far’ but added the impasse would only be resolved on their terms.

“We have a disciplinary meeting on Friday which Henri and his advisors are fully aware of,” he said.

“We are attempting to get him to the meeting but if he doesn’t turn up, we will deal with the matter as we see fit.

“Henri needs to think carefully about the stance he is taking and start turning up for training.

“We will not be bullied into selling him to the first club that comes in. Henri will only leave under terms we find acceptable.”
