Thompson re-elected FA chief

Geoff Thompson has been re-elected for a second term as chairman of the Football Association.

He was unopposed for the post at yesterday’s FA summer meeting at Slaley Hall in Northumberland having taken on the role four years ago.

Thompson, who was also acting chairman of the FA in 1999, was re-elected to the UEFA executive committee earlier this year.

He said: “I will do everything within my powers to promote English football both at home and abroad.”

Roger Burden and Peter Hough were re-elected to the FA board and Mike Rawding from East Riding was voted on to replace the retiring Alan Turvey as national game representatives alongside Ray Kiddell, David Henson and Barry Bright.

The Premier League representatives will be league chairman Dave Richards, Arsenal vice-chairman David Dein, Bolton chairman Phil Gartside and Southampton chairman Rupert Lowe.

The Football League will continue to be represented by Ipswich chairman David Sheepshanks and his Colchester counterpart Peter Heard.
