Moyes: Rooney not too big for Goodison

Everton manager David Moyes has described the idea that Wayne Rooney is too big for Goodison as “laughable nonsense”.

Everton manager David Moyes has described the idea that Wayne Rooney is too big for Goodison as “laughable nonsense”.

After creating headlines around the world at Euro 2004, Rooney has been linked with the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea.

But Moyes has dismissed the suggestion that the England striker needs to leave Everton to fulfil his potential.

“This idea that Wayne has suddenly developed beyond Everton’s level is just laughable nonsense,” the manager told the Daily Mirror.

“Wayne certainly hasn’t outgrown Everton Football Club.

“Don’t anyone tell me that he should move on because Everton aren’t big enough for him. This is a big club with a big tradition and he has plenty to achieve here.”

He added: “He has become a top-class international at Everton, so the club can’t be all bad.”
