Butt doubtful for England game against Swiss
England were dealt a further midfield injury blow tonight when it emerged that Nicky Butt had sustained a knee injury that required a hospital scan.
The Manchester United midfielder injured his right knee during training and is therefore doubtful for Thursday’s game against Switzerland.
It is not yet known how serious the problem is, with the results of the scan not expected to be revealed until tomorrow morning.
However, it further diminishes Eriksson’s midfield options, especially if Paul Scholes does not recover quickly from the twisted ankle that makes him a doubtful starter.
An FA spokesman said: “Nicky Butt injured his right knee in training this afternoon. He was taken for a scan and we expect to know the results in the morning.”
