Giggs relishing Cardiff homecoming
Potential FA Cup history-maker Ryan Giggs could not be more pleased to be heading home to Cardiff tomorrow.
The Welsh winger may have won three previous finals at Wembley but he admits he actually hated the place.
Along with Manchester United team-mate Roy Keane, Giggs will equal Old Trafford legend Mark Hughes’ record of four winner’s medals if the Red Devils justify favouritism against First Division Millwall tomorrow.
The achievement would be more special for Giggs because it would be completed in the city where he was born in front of as many members of his family as he could scrounge tickets for.
And though United’s only victory from their three previous trips to the Millennium Stadium came on penalties in the Community Shield against Arsenal last August, Giggs believes Alex Ferguson’s multi-talented squad actually have a better chance because they are not playing under the now demolished Twin Towers.
“I hated Wembley,” Giggs told MUTV. “The pitch was really lush and sticky and really difficult to run with the ball on.”
