Bruckner names Czech squad for Euro 2004

There were few surprises when Czech Republic coach Karel Bruckner named his provisional squad for Euro 2004 today.

The team will be led by Juventus star Pavel Nedved with Chelsea-bound goalkeeper Petr Cech and Borussia Dortmund midfielder Tomas Rosicky also taking their places in the 24-man party.

The only unexpected inclusion was that of Banik Ostrava striker Miroslav Matusovic but he did enough to convince Bruckner of his abilities by scoring 10 times for the Czech champions this season.

One player will be omitted on June 2 to take the number down to 23 – the required amount for the Championship.

The Czech Republic squad is:

Petr Cech (Rennes), Jaromir Blazek (Sparta Prague), Antonin Kinsky (Saturn Ramenskoje); Rene Bolf (Banik Ostrava), Zdenek Grygera (Ajax), Tomas Hubschmann (Sparta Prague), Marek Jankulovski (Udinese), Martin Jirnaek (Reggina), Pavel Mares (Zenit St Petersburg), David Rozehnal (Club Brugge), Tomas Ujfalusi (Hamburg); Tomas Galasek (Ajax), Pavel Nedved (Juventus), Jaroslav Plasil (Monaco), Karel Poborsky (Sparta Prague), Tomas Rosicky (Borussia Dortmund), Vladimir Smicer (Liverpool), Roman Tyce (1860 Munich), Stepan Vachousek (Marseille); Milan Baros (Liverpool), Marek Heinz (Banik Ostrava), Jan Koller (Borussia Dortmund), Vratislav Lokvenc (Kaiserslautern), Miroslav Matusovic (Banik Ostrava).
