A former Coventry schoolboy has announced plans for a close-season takeover of the Sky Blues – claiming he is backed by five Russian oil tycoons.

Sky Blues fan Jojar Dhinsa, estimated to be worth around £40m (€60.1m), has announced he is in the early stages of arranging a multi-million pound takeover package.

The 29-year-old financier grew up in the Foleshill area of the city, where the club plan to relocate to a new £35m (€52.6m) stadium.

He told the Evening Telegraph: “This is a completely serious bid. I want to buy Coventry City Football Club and at the end of the season we will be approaching the club.

“It’s a package which will be lucrative to the club. If run well I see the club progressing like Birmingham City because Coventry belong in the Premiership.”

Coventry chairman Mike McGinnity said: “I’d be a fool were I not to listen to anyone who wanted to invest in Coventry City.”
